Benzoquine is a topical lightening product and it’s used to correct skin discoloration associated with disorders of hyperpigmentation including melasma, post-inflammatory hyperpigmention, sunspots and freckles. Extensive study has revealed at least a twofold mechanism of action for this whitening cream. First, Hydroquinone interferes with the active site of tyrosinase, a key enzyme of melanogenesis. Second, it inhibits RNA and DNA synthesis, which are thought to further contribute to the disruption of melanocytes and their ability to form melanosomes.Alexius Sunscreen use is an essential aspect of hydroquinone therapy because even minimal sunlight sustains melanocytic activity. To prevent re-pigmentation during treatment and maintenance therapy, sun exposure on treated skin should be avoided by application of a broad spectrum Alexius sunscreen, or by use of protective clothing.
